Sites

I am sure you already know what you want to do here. For the historical sites (Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Agora, etc), you can get a combined ticket to everything, which was worth it.

Activities

Make sure you hit the Acropolis Museum, it's not big but it's pretty new and awesome. We also liked the Museum of Cycladic Art.

Monastiraki Flea Market was cool (also a cool neighborhood to wander)

Outdoor movies! Cine Thisio is the one we went to: http://cine-thisio.gr/ Every week they pick one movie, and screen it every night (two showings). It was in a cool neighborhood that felt more locals than tourist, and you could see the Acropolis lit up in the background. When we went it was an old Hitchcock movie in English with Greek subtitles. They have food and wine also.

Where to stay

We stayed in the Psyri neighborhood, which was very cool, lots of street art and funky cafes and everything, plus walkable to almost everything we wanted to do.

Food

Had good meals at: Oinopoleion, Lithos Taverna (I know there are Michelin-starred restaurants in Athens but we did not get our shit together in time to make reservations, and there was a lot that looked great in our neighborhood, so we mostly did that)

General Tips

We had an Airbnb at the edge of Oia, sunset there was as amazing as everyone says, so you should do that at least one evening. We took buses all over the island and it was very easy, the buses go everywhere and are not expensive. But the timetables are not always clear, and sometimes they are full and you have to wait for the next one (if you are staying in Oia, there are lots of buses though, so I would not worry about it). We also called for taxis a few times, it's expensive but much faster. Worth it to get the name/number of a driver or service if you're going to do this.

Vlichada (Vlychada) beach. It's a black sand beach at the southern end of the island, and it was very cool and otherworldly looking. You can rent chairs/umbrellas. You can get there very easily by bus -- take a bus to Fira and then transfer to a second bus for Vlichada, it was about an hour total (and very worth it).

Food

Lotza in Oia was great (restaurant)

One of the best meals we ate the whole trip was at To Psaraki, at the Vlichada marina. Our Airbnb host recommended it very insistently...and he was right. It was amazing.

I had several friends recommend dinner and sunset in Imerovigli, but we did not make it. Supposed to be some great restaurants there and less crowded than Oia. Next time!

Wineries! There are a bunch across Santorini and I am sure they are all amazing. We went to Venetsanos and it was beautiful, such an amazing view, plus of course the wine was great.

Naxos

Naxos

To be honest, this was my favorite place we went. So, great choice! We had an Airbnb nearby Agios Anna, so most of my recommendations are in that area. We did rent a car because my friend drives manual, but I think it should be easy to get around OK without a car. We were told that if we wanted a taxi, have a tavern call one for you. We did not spend much time in Chora.

Beaches

Orkos Beach Club. You can rent chairs/umbrellas for the day. Also this is apparently a famous kite surfing beach, because of the light wind, and it was cool to watch.

Mikri Vigla! This was all of our favorite beach the whole trip. You can rent chairs/umbrellas, and the beach is just so, so beautiful. Also, there is a taverna on this beach, which is also called Mikri Vigla, and it was really good.

Activities

Boat trip: We did this boat daytrip around the southern end of Naxos, it was 50 euro a person and included grill lunch and unlimited wine (full day, like 10-5 I think), there were a bunch of spots to get out and swim...we all loved it. https://www.facebook.com/JasonDailyCruises/

Diving:  Not sure if either of you is a diver, but I went with Bluefin Divers in Agios Prokopios and they were great

Hike: When I was diving, my friends did the Temple of Zeus / Mt Zas hike and said it was AMAZING (https://www.sightsandsoleil.com/blog/2017/10/5/how-to-conquer-mount-zeus)

Drive: We spent one day driving around the island to a bunch of the little villages. Filoti and Halki (Chalki) were both adorable. Halki in particular is famous for this citron liquor, and you can visit the distillery, and there are some 11th and 12th century Byzantine churches.

Restaurants

Liatero restaurant (on the beach in Ag Anna), was so good, and also an amazing (best?) sunset view

Gorgona restaurant had amazing food, plus they make their own wine in-house, high recommend
